Join us for "High Desert" with James Spooner, the creator of Afropunk, for a single day culture festival in celebration of his new, coming-of-age graphic novel's release. The schedule will include a book-signing; zine workshop and small Black press fair led by #blkgrlswurld ; musical performances by The Ire, Truth Cult; DJ sets by Honeychild and CX Kidtronik; a panel discussion with Black graphic novel leaders Ben Passmore, Ronald Wimberly, and Tanna Tucker; plus, an artist talk with James Spooner, moderated by Dawnie Walton.

High Desert is a grabbing, angsty coming-of-age tale offers a sidewalk view of a creative subculture. It’s also a poignant ode to the power of music to fill voids left by family and circumstance, with provocations thrumming on race and identity that sound out like a smashed guitar.
